It’s been a chilly few days in the Northwest, with continued arctic outflow warnings in effect for the North Coast Coastal and Inland causing severe windchill along with the freezing temperatures.
And it’s looking like that cold is expected to stick around at least for another few days.
Environment Canada has issued a warning on the arctic outflow - reminding us that frostbite and hypothermia can occur within minutes is adequate precautions are not taken when outdoors.
We are also reminded to make sure shelter is provided for pets and outdoor animals, and to store any outdoor objects so that they don’t get tossed by the wind causing injury or damage.
The wind-chill value at the Dease Lake airport reached minus 51 this morning, while the temperatures were around minus 40 in Fort Nelson, Chetwynd and Burns Lake.
Any exposed skin is likely to result in frostbite at these temperatures.
