Smithers RCMP have arrested a repeat property crime offender who was wanted on 11 warrants.
Amily Tom has been charged with numerous offences, including failing to comply with a probation order, breaching a release order, mischief, and multiple counts of theft and break and enter.
Property crime offences significantly impact our community, and while we remain committed to holding individuals accountable, the ultimate decision rests with the courts, said Sergeant Ryan Law, of the Smithers RCMP.
“We also recognize that addressing crime requires a collaborative effort, and we remain committed to working with the community and our partner agencies”, added Constable Jocelyn Foidart, who co-chairs the Smithers Situation Table.
Residents can take proactive steps to help prevent property crime, such as:
- Locking doors and windows: Always secure your home, garage, vehicles and sheds.
- Securing valuables: Keep expensive items, tools, and electronics out of sight in vehicles.
- Installing a security system: Consider using doorbell cameras or surveillance systems.
- Marking and documenting belongings: Use tools like engravers to label valuables and keep an inventory with serial numbers and photos.
- Reporting suspicious activity: Call the police immediately if you notice unusual behaviour in your area.
