Showdown in Snowtown: Guns n Hoses 2025 Hockey Game Coming up in Kitimat

Kitimat Firefighters & Police pose for a friendly photo to promote the upcoming game.

This year’s game has been named the Showdown in Snow Town, says Sgt. Rob Gardner.

“And we just we get the community out. We play a fun game of hockey between the firefighters and the RCMP, and we raise money.”

Sgt. Gardner added that the family favorite event is taking on a new cause in 2025.

“The firefighters' Ladder of Hope Charitable Foundation. All the money that’s raised is going back to the nonprofit sports in Kitimat. So any sports teams that are nonprofit. The money’s going to go back to the kids.”

And in a tense on-ice race yesterday between Sparky Dog and Safety Bear, Sparky took the win. Sgt. Gardner said that’s not always the case.

“The RCMP did win last year. It was a really good game. We won 7-4. The year before, that was the first year since the pandemic. The fire department beat us, so it’s kind of 1 to 1 since the pandemic… We were really happy about the win. But of course, it’s not about that. It’s always about raising money for the kids.”

The puck drops February 22nd, 2025 at 7 p.m. at the Tamitik Arena. Doors open at 6.pm. and entry is by donation.

Sgt. Gardner said his money is on the RCMP to secure the victory.

“It’s gonna have to be the RCMP. There is a little bit of concern that the fire department’s raised about the reffing, so we’re gonna, you know, we might have some undercover spies or something, helping with the reffing this year, just to make sure that everything’s going to be above board there.”
